The painting is based on the painting of the same name in the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga in Lisbon. About 25 comparable compostions from followers are known.

According to the website 'balat.kikirpa.bel' the painting is signed as follows: EGO I (heronimus) A (enthonis son) B (osch) FE (ci) et P (inxi) / IABfct May 1, 1508.

The dimensions are almost equal to the copy in the Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp.

Looks a lot like the paintings from Hulten in Stockholm and Lempertz in Cologne 1974

History:

Belonged to the private collection of Carl Bechstein in Berlin from 1925 to 1930. Was privately owned by J. Schnetzer-Meier in Zurich in 1934 and by Hanna Maritsch's art dealership in Zurich in 1949. In 1970 ended up at Galerie Cramer in The Hague (last known location). According to the website 'balat.kikirpa.bel', the painting is (was?) also in the possession of HM Von Seidel in Zurich.
