Note Wannenes: The canvas in question comes from one of the panels that Bosch painted with oil on wood around 1502-1503 and the Earthly Paradise, the Ascension to the Empire, the Fall of the Damned and Hell. The work is kept in the Academy of Venice and belonged to the collections of Cardinal Domenico Grimani (1461-1523). It is a shared opinion that the 'visions' were part of a more complex composition 'perhaps on the theme of the Last Judgment' for which they could function as side compartments.
