Bussagli 1967
Bosch – The life and work of the artist illustrated with 80 colour plates (Mario Bussagli) 1967
[Thames and Hudson, London, 1967 (reprint: 1980), 39 pages +80 ill., original Italian: Firenze, 1967]
[Also mentioned in Gibson 1983: 3 (A11)]
Bosch’s paintings are characterized by a lot of moralizing pessimism. The numerous enigmatic and fantastic elements in his oeuvre can perhaps be explained by the use of hallucinogenic drugs and by the painter’s familiarity with alchemical processes and heretical sects, such as the Adamites.
In 1967 a Spanish translation was published, in 1980 a French translation.
