[Also mentioned in Gibson 1983: 174-175 (I3)]
The catalogue of the exhibition in the then Museum Boymans in Rotterdam (July-October 1936). The objective was to offer a survey of Northern Dutch paintings, drawings and prints from the period 1480-1550, with Bosch as major artist. According to the introduction by museum director Dirk Hannema the art of Bosch is a milestone in the history of painting. What seems weird to us in his works today, often has its roots in the contemporary folklore and customs of Brabant.
