As far as Fraenger has tried to interpret Bosch’s oeuvre ‘according to the normal standards of human intellect’, Gerlach wants to respect his insights. But Fraenger’s hypotheses about the Adamite sect and Jacob van Almaengien are sheer Hineininterpretierung. Gerlach agrees with Van Puyvelde: many interpretations of Bosch are far-fetched.
