The painting is similar to the painting at the Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, in Liassabon. There are about 25 similar compositions of followers known.

Before 1919 Augsburg Gemälde Galerie, October 1, 1919, lotnr. 9 will be auctioned from the private collection of Stallforth Wiesbaden, Germany, by art dealers Helbing of Munich. In June 1921 to the art shop for Charles Albert de Burlet, in the Hague, and, in 1926, to the art dealer Goudstikker in Amsterdam. In 1928 it was sold to Daniel van Beuningen in Vierhouten, who in 1958 has been submitted to the Museum of Boijmans van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam.
