The painting is a copy of the original central panel in Museu de Arte Antiga in Lisbon, although St Anthony is MISSING!

A comparable composition appears in about 25 paintings. See an identical painting in black and white, perhaps the same, at UNKNOWN, Temptation Antonius. On website 'rkd.nl', Image number 0000088342 (upperside side cut off?)

In 1945 it was seen in the Milton Gallery in London and in 1947 at an art dealer or private collection Armherr in London until it was auctioned on 25 November 1998, lot no.63, from the Jan Mandijn area, at Christies New York.
