Probably an overpainting with two figures of saints underneath (Friedländer, 1961).
According book 'Schatkist van een Bankier': A restoration in 1995 brought to light interesting new data. After the removal of the varnish layer, it became clear that another painting is hidden under this image. A compostion with two large upright figures (Mother Mary and a male figure?) and four small figures, probably the founders.
The signature is also clearly visible on the infrared image. Remarkably enough, only the fantasy creatures are unsigned. It is quite possible that these figures, given Antony's undisturbed posture, were made by another artist.
Unverfehrt is of the opinion that this painting comes from the same master (from the Antwerp area) as the Last Judgement in Munich.
A similar painting (67 x 52,5) can be seen at an auction at Christies Amsterdam on 15-16 November 2016, lot 61
