This is a late copy of high quality. The possible attribution to the Mechelen painter Michiel Coxie (1499 - 1592) cannot be excluded. The left wing in the Escorial preserved (inv.nr. 2053), which has now to the Prado is transferred, probably belonged to this central panel. Striking is the clear presentation of the two 'hairy people' bottom right.

Several images of Imitators of the Central Panel in the Prado are known: In the Museum of Visual Arts in Budapest; at the Wellcome Library in London, at the Count de Pommereu in Paris, at the Germanisches National Museum in Nuremberg, the State Hermitage Museum in Sint Petersburg, an Unknown Art Gallery in Berlin in 1927, a private collection in Germany that was twice part of an exhibition in Berlin (in 2016/2017 and 2019)

History:

Probably during the Napoleonic era from the Hunting Castle Pardo handed on to France.
