Dr. Lucas van Dijck

Author

Godfrey Christiaan Maria van Dijck, nickname Lucas, was born in Eindhoven in 1937 from a Roman Catholic industrial family. His family came from Geldrop (1400-1736) and moved to Eindhoven (1736-present), where his great-grandfather Thomas van Dijck founded the steam joinery "De Rietvink" on the canal.

Illustrious Dear Lady Brotherhood

After the Gymnasium Augustinianum in Eindhoven he studied philosophy and theology (a.o. in Paris in 1962-1963) and was ecclesiastical. After studying history (mediëvistiek) at Utrecht University, he obtained his doctorate in 1973 on the theme: "De Bossche Optimaten, Geschiedenis van de Illustere Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap in 's-Hertogenbosch, 1318-1973" (Tilburg 1973).

Jheronimus van Aken alias Bosch

Then worked as an archivist, librarian and historian. Published a.o. "Mirakelen van Onze Lieve Vrouw van 's-Hertogenbosch", Tilburg 1978; "Het harpsichord in de Nederlandse kunst tot 1800" (together with Ton Koopman), Zutphen 1987; "Genealogie Van Dijck-van Dijk 1500-2000", Rossum 1998; "Op zoek naar Jheronimus van Aken alias Bosch", Zaltbommel 2001; "De Bossche Loterij 15621564", Sermoyer (Fr) 2003.

Ecce Gay from Bosch

In several cultural-historical articles he identified the 15th century Bossche sculptor the "master of Coudewater" as Mr. Jan van Gheervliet, and the persons on the Ecce Homo of Bosch in Boston, being two Brothers of the Brotherhood (Pieter van Oss and Franko van Langel), as well as on a mockery of Christ by Bosch in Madrid (Jan Mathijs Ludinc Pijnappel). In addition, he published numerous genealogies, among others of the textile manufacturers of Dooren in Tilburg and the Van Olden family. Since 2002 he has lived in France as a historian. Father of four children.
