The composition is similar to the eponymous paintings in the San Diego Museum of Art, The Noordbrabants Museum in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the left inside panel of the passiontriptych in Valencia.

Possibly before 1924 Art dealer Paul Mersch in Paris. On December 8/9 1924, lot, no. 4, as a Jheronimus Bosch at an auction at Fiviez in Brussels, from the collection of Pierre Vernier from Nice.
