Bought in 1902 by Henry Walters in Baltimore and in 1931 bequeathed to the Museum.A painting with the same composition can be found for example at Art Dealer Abels in Cologne (1952), at the Museum of fine arts in Brussels, in the Bibliotheque National de France in Paris and at the Prado in Madrid (also known under the name 'Inferno).
