Grzegorz Kubies

Musicologist and Art Historian

Grzegorz Kubies (b. 1971) is an independent scholar. He studied music and musicology at the University of Silesia (1992-1997) and the Jagiellonian University (1996-2001) in Poland. He received his Ph.D. in history of art from the University of Warsaw in 2011 upon completion of the dissertation Musician angels in fifteenth- and early sixteenth-century Netherlandish painting – An iconographic and musicological study. His research interests and publications focus on musical culture in ancient Israel / Palestine as well as on early Netherlandish painting. He has been doing research into musical motifs in Bosch’s paintings for several years. Kubies is a member of the Polish Composers’ Union (Musicologists’ Section).
