Explanation: The painting is (almost) identical to the painting of the same name, attributed to Jan Wellens de Cock, in the Nelson-Atkins Museum (28.58 x 38.89) in Kansas City (USA).
History:
Signed by Friedländer at Art Dealer Bollag in Zurich in 1944 and auctioned by Sotheby's in London on December 7, 1960, lot no. 43, like a Jan Gossaert. The buyer's name, according to auctioneer's earnings list, was 'Matthiesen 650 GBP'.
