Explanation: The painting is almost identical to the eponymous paintings in the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem and the Stedelijk Museum Vanderkelen-Mertens in Louvain (Leuven).
History:
In 1934 (Keurvorst) Clemens August von Köln had the painting auctioned by Art Dealer Malmedé in Cologne and ended up in Riese's private collection in Paderborn. It was subsequently sighted in 1958 at Duncan Art Gallery in London and Sotheby's in London on December 19, 1985, lot no. 59, as attributed to Jan Mandijn.
