This book offers a selection of the lectures presented during a three-day conference at the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center (’s-Hertogenbosch) in May 2007, focusing on the sources of Jheronimus Bosch. The contributions in this volume are widely divergent as far as character, research, analysis and method are concerned. This is typical of a conference but it also guarantees that the book itself can become a source of inspiration, leading to reaction, further research and finally to a deeper understanding of Bosch and his fascinating oeuvre.

For a more detailed discussion of the separate contributions, see Koldeweij 2010, Silver 2010, Caspers 2010, Colenbrander 2010, De Bruyn 2010, Van Dijck 2010, Dixon 2010, Fischer 2010, Gelfand 2010, Ilsink 2010, Matt Kavaler 2010, Landau 2010, Limentani Virdis 2010, Marías 2010, Pinson 2010, Pokorny 2010, Vermet 2010, Vurm 2010 and Van Waadenoijen 2010 (this last contribution being absent from the volume’s table of contents by the way).
