Father Gerlach discusses some supposed Bosch portraits: the drawing in the Recueil d’Arras, an engraving edited by Hieronymus Cock, a small painting that is currently located in Amherst (Massachusetts, USA), a drawing attributed to Peter Bruegel the Elder and two drawings from 1786 and 1809, attributed to Quirinus van Amelsfoort.
In Gerlach’s opinion the answer to the question whether one of these works indeed portrays Bosch, must remain hypothetical.
