This is the text of the inaugural speech delivered on the occasion of the Hommage to Bosch exhibition (’s-Hertogenbosch, 17th September 1967). Van Velzen focuses on the conflict between ‘seeing’ and ‘looking’ with St. Anthony, with Bosch and with modern man. He fears that his words have contributed to the ‘messing around with Hieronymus Bosch’.
