Before 1934 the painting was in the possession of the director of the RKD, the art historian / researcher Hans Schneider from The Hague / Basel. In that year it was spotted at Jos W. Waldis in Lucerne and in 1936 the painting was transferred from art dealer Schneeberger in Bern to art dealer Schulthess in Bern and subsequently (until 1971) became the private property of Schouwerker in Brussels. In 1971 it was seen in the Galleria dell'Angelo in Lugano
